About

Hi, I'm Matt!

I'm a software engineer who has worked at Lifars, Edlio, and OffSec with various contract work mixed between. I've also tried my hand at doing my own thing with StrangerSystems (not very successful) and GOMdrop (significantly more successful, but not quite escape velocity). These days I am mostly in engineering leadership positions, however I cannot help but get my hands dirty; I love programming and you will have to pry it from me if you want to work together.

With regards to my programming history, I started in middle school with GML, though I was terrible at it and my games were awful. Entering high school, I had a TI-83 which came with an excellent user's manual (remember those?) and could be programmed in TI-BASIC; I spent many hours writing small programs on my calculator and it really kickstarted my love for programming. By my junior year, I had learned PHP, Python, and little bit of JS. I wanted to tinker with phpBB forums, which I did plenty of, and maybe make my own Newgrounds clone, but this never really materialized).

I am really into programming languages and programming language theory, though I am definitely a casual. Seeing all the unique ideas and perspectives brought forth by different languages just gets me incredibly excited! In terms of favorites, I quite fancy Rust and I have a healthy appreciation for Typescript (which I make my money with). I've made a few small toy languages myself, but one day I hope to create my own, ideal language.

Outside of the tech stuff, I really enjoy reading manga, drinking cold green tea, and watching Pannenkoek's incredible SM64 videos. I love the aesthetics of abandoned places, the architecture of Ricardo Bofill, and the insanity of The Garden of Earthly Delights. You can catch me mashing buttons in many different fighting games or sobbing my way through whatever the latest FromSoftware title is.

I also absolutely live for my dog, but my wife is cool too.
